Can you paint over vinyl wallpaper, or do you have to prepare it somehow???

Sand it down, prime the areas, then use spray texture if desired, %26amp; then you are ready to paint. It worked for me :)Can you paint over vinyl wallpaper, or do you have to prepare it somehow???
You have to pop and seal any air bubbles or lose seams and then use a primer like kilz let dry and topcoatCan you paint over vinyl wallpaper, or do you have to prepare it somehow???
ok.....you need to do as others before have said but use oil based topcoat so as to make finish functional as in washable and durable
You'll have to check for air bubbles under the vinyl and pop those, then primmer the vinyl, then paint. I don't recomend painting over any wallpaper if you can remove it without too much hassle. But if you have to paint over it..... that's the way to go.
If you own the walls take it off, or you will hate yourself later. You will need a device to score the paper so that the solution can get to the glue to disolve it. The one i use is called a paper tiger. For a wetting solution you can use a product called Dif or white vinegar in warm water. I believe both are made by a company called zinser.

The vinyl may peel off in huge sheets. Then you may have to rewet the paper backing layer, and take that off separately. I have heard that steamer will really help but have not used one myself.
Vinyl wall paper is so easy to take off. Why paint over it. Just squirt some dif on it and let it sit for about 20 minutes then peel it off. It looks much nicer to remove the paper.
If its on the wall and not peeling anywhere ,you can use a primer sealer first and then paint .Use a flat or satin paint ,gloss will show more imperfections . I still think its worth it to remove the paper though.Take off top layer of paper if you can so the under layer can absorb, then use a 1/4 cup fabric softener to a 2 quart sprayer filled with really hot water, spray wait a minute and scrape off with 5';scraper .
