It is possible to paint the siding but you must properly prepare the suface first. That means cleaning it, rinse all detergents and chemicals off of it. Possibly rough the exterior and definately prime to insure the paint sticks. You must also paint it a similar color to what the siding was originally. It may sound weird but if you radically change the color it could cause the siding to warp or peel from the house. The siding is made with the color in mind and it may end up absorbing too much heat from the sun if the color is vastly different causing the warping I talked about. Also keep in mind that once you paint you will have to keep painting in the future, due to wear and peeling of the paint. Most siding is chosen to avoid that problem. I was the paint department manger at Sears for 3 years, so I know what I am talking about. Can you paint vinyl siding?
yes you can but you must choose the same color or one that is lighter or risk the vinyl warping in the heat of the day..........talk to manufacturer if you want to be safeCan you paint vinyl siding?
yes, make sure you use a primer first then a top coat..we do this all the time..good luck
Yes! We painted ours %26amp; it looked wonderful. My husband used KILZ first than a good outdoor paint intended for Vinyl. Saved us a fortune. Good Luck!
yes,but youll need to get a paint that is for plastic!and even then it will still come off easy!
Big job, but the potential for a great result is there.
First you may want to scrub the siding with a mixture of TSP--that will remove dirt and oil that naturally accumulate.
Then you may need to lightly sand, to get a little ';tooth'; in the siding if it's very smooth.
Next, you will need to prime--Kilz or something similiar. Allow ample drying time.
Finally the paint, choose a nice neutral so that you don't tire of it quickly or harm the re-sale of your house. If you want a punch of color do that with your shutter, doors, etc.
Consider renting or buying a paint sprayer for this project and good luck.
Last tip---lots of sunscreen and a hat--you'll be outside a while!
Having friends over for a bit of a painting party may make things go smoother as well.
