How does one remove paint stains on wooden floors and vinyl tiles?

I've just painted my hallway and my son's bedroom. Despite having covered the floors with plastic, I still have some paint stains on my floor and don't know the best way to remove them. Any advice would be appreciated! How does one remove paint stains on wooden floors and vinyl tiles?
hi jill

i am sure that you have used latex paint so just some warm water and a cloth will remove your paint. i am just blown away by how people would suggest acetone or carburator cleaner all of this stuff can be very damaging. come on people if you don't know don't answer. are the 2 lousy points that important that you would maybe ruin someones floors? How does one remove paint stains on wooden floors and vinyl tiles?
Your paint will come off with your finger nail, or if it is more in tiny splatters then dampen a rag with warm sudsy water and scrub..not too wet though as you do not want to damage your flooring...lots of time and patience to do this, but it will clean off...never use acetone on your floors or it will ruin it.
Fresh latex paint, even though it appears to be dry may come right up with warm soapy water.

Oil based paint will need some turpentine.

Stains that are set, I have found that carburator cleaner will remove them. but heed caution, it can damage the floor.
acetone is perfect, i jsut has this problem yesterday, on the floor is good , on the wood dont let it soak or you will have to restain the floor , jsut use cold soapy water.
If you plan to keep them lots of elbow grease and a lil mineral spirits, depends on the paint latex? enamel? very fine steel wool, if not liquid stripper, all gone. good luck
In most cases if your wood floor has a sealant on it the paint should come off with your finger nails . Same with the floor.
