How do i remove paint from light switches and vinyl flooring?

I was told to try an acetone product on the vinyl floor but am worried it will fade it and won't acetone orf thinners melt the plastic light switches? Please help as i'm desperate.How do i remove paint from light switches and vinyl flooring?
turpentine, or a synthetic kind call turpenoid. It gets paint off of everything. They sell it at Michael's craft stores and at Home Depot. I used it to get paint splatters off of my wood dining table and chairs and it did not damage the finish on the wood! It's safe for plastic and your vinyl floors.How do i remove paint from light switches and vinyl flooring?
Acetone is what we use to remove backing clue and all manner of stuff off vinyl. to remove paint of switched?? I would suggest a product call goof off or Krud Kuter both at do it your self stores





Goof off comes in regular and water based.. I try the water based
go to a hardware sotre, they usually sell pain removing products like Goof Off!
try a product called goof off or undo sold at hardware stores. It should just wipe right off. If the paint is water soluble it will just wash off.
try using Naptha. (Ronson lighter fluid)
I like to use a product called ';oops'; it seems to remove paint from just about anything.
most of the time just scraping it off works....regular interior semi gloss will come off with a butter knife or good fingernails..unless it is a lot of paint...then i would go with what ever a paint store will tell you...they are the experts.
Unless you have antique style light switches just replace them with new ones. They are not expensive.


Is the floor painted or just did some paint splash on it? If paint splashed, sometimes a single edge razor blade will scrape it off. If the paint is water based, (latex) use water when you scrape it. If oil based, mineral spirits will work.
Acetone will dissolve your light switches, and make holes in your vinyl floor.

You can buy new switch-plate covers very cheap, You should be able to simply scrape the paint of the switch itself fairly easily, avoid using a flammable or any liquid on the switches. use #3 steel wool soaked in acetone to remove paint from floor if warm soapy water doesn't work.
I rehab houses and replacing the plates is a last ditch effort (every penny counts!) I take them all off %26amp; soak them in HOT, soapy water for an hour or so. That will loosen latex paint to the point that a sponge will take it off. For a floor, you put a wet, soapy thick rag over the paint %26amp; pour a bit more hot, soapy water on it every 15 minutes or so. If that doesn't do it, it's probably Oil paint. GooGone usually does the trick without damaging the plastic or vinyl, but don't let it sit %26amp; be sure to wash it off with soapy water or it will soften the vinyl.
sometimes warm water will do the trick for both.


krud kuter, goof off is a hot product. it might melt vinyl surfaces, and make the plate surface dull. almost like lacquer thinner.


naphtha, acetone can do the job, but enters into the blood system as soon as it hits the skin. bad for the blood. i don't use it my self. try a small area first. test it. if it does not hurt the finish------ use it.
Try WD40. It will not hurt the vinyl.
