Can I use ordinary emulsion to paint over vinyl wallpaper?

You can if you undercoat it first, if you try to paint sraight onto it the paint will just slide around and not stick and you'll get a really patchy finish, even after several coats of paint. Can I use ordinary emulsion to paint over vinyl wallpaper?
There is 3 options for painting over vinyl paper.

First option is to strip all the paper off.

second option is to take off the top layer and leave the backing paper, it will have a furry feel to it, you just lightly sand it down, and then paint.

Thirdly, you apply a coat of diluted PVA over the whole paper, leave to dry, then emusion as normal.

There will be bubbling from the second and third option, but they will go back. Can I use ordinary emulsion to paint over vinyl wallpaper?
You can, but it might bubble the paper which should go away once the paint is dry, if there r still some bubbles u can slice them with a craft knife and put abit of paste in them and rub them flat.
vinyl paper cant be painted over succesfully as emulsion is water based and needs to penetrate into the surface to adhere and it cant on vinyl using pva as was suggested isnt advisable either as you leave an inpenetrable surface with this. The only option open to you if you dont want problems is to strip the paper off.Thre is a product called zinseer bin which will give the paint a key but the cost will outway the benefit (about 拢30 for 4lts)
YES IF YOU ARE DESPERATE. ROLL ON A LIGHT COAT FIRST AND LET DRY FOR A DAY OR SO. DONT THIN THE PAINT. ITS NOT REALLY A RECOMMENDED JOB AND ONLY AS A DESPRATE MEASURE TO TEMPORARY BRIGHTEN THINGS.IT WILL NOT COVER STAINS. LOTS OF VINLY PAPERS HAVE A LINING PAPER UNDERNEATH WHEN YOU PEEL THEM.TRY AND SEE.
not recommended.personally i would strip wallpaper off depending on your walls line it and paint it
You can but with complications, its probably best to either remove whats there, or cover it with lining paper and emulsion over that. With painting, preparation is 9 tenths of the work. Its easier in the long run to do something which at first seems a lot of work.
