Can vinyl siding be painted with regular exterior paint?

Certainly, I did mine and it's perfect, looks like new siding.Can vinyl siding be painted with regular exterior paint?

There are undercoats for vinyl, but may be expensive. Check with your supplier.

You need to pressure wash the siding, then use a primer formulated for the task. Your home center should have an ample supply.


As a side note...Wouldn't this be a good time to consider replacing the vinyl? Hardi Plank siding holds paint much longer than wood, is impervious to fire, and has substantially more impact resistance than vinyl.
They have special paints for this. It's not cheap, but less than new siding. Call a paint store like Benjamin Moore and ask someone who can direct you. They probably dont' sell it there, but may have ideas of a company. Otherwise, just type in the keywords online and see what you find.
