Can you paint ugly vinyl floors - if so do you need special paint?

I have the most horrendously awful old vinyl flooring in my bathroom and kitchen - but cannot afford to buy new flooring. Can you paint it? If so - does it have to be special paint so it doesn't come off again? and where in the UK can you get this without paying a fortune?

thanks :)Can you paint ugly vinyl floors - if so do you need special paint?
Do not paint it! It will peel off in no time.I am sure you can get new vinyl very, very cheap. You may not have a great choice of colors, but places always have remnants, close-outs etc.Call around. You will find it.Can you paint ugly vinyl floors - if so do you need special paint?
yes, they do sell floor paint.

Its basically paint with grit in it so you don't slip and fall.

All paint companies carry it and they can mix it into any color.

Cost the same as regular paint

I can tell you the following- it's a quick fix- it looks great at first and then starts to get worn and dirty looking after a year.

It's very hard to paint white or a dark color like red. You best bed is to do a meduim or light shade like pink, light blue or green. This will give you the best covarge. I did white the first time and it took 3 coats and never looked as nice as I wanted- the underneath floor was like skin peach color.

Also pay close attention to the drying time. And you might have to strip the finish off the vinyl floor before applying.

Good luck.

Another idea which cost more then paint but still cheaper- you can buy cheap peel and stick floors to put over your old floor. Same thing though- they start to fall apart in a year or two from wear.

The paint wears- but you can just repaint in another year or two. I painted my kitchen floor 3 times in 5 years- the final time was when I sold it.
Actually, you can paint tile, but it would look worse! You may consider charity orginizations that recycle goods for resale. In America, you can go to Habitat for Humanity,Builders Outlet, and a few more. This way you can purchase these matrials cheaply, because they are overstocks, leftovers, and unwanted items. They are usually donations that can be bought very cheaply! Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!
