Paints fall into either of two categories. Water or oil based. You can usually mix two of the same category together (very occasionally not) water and water or oil and oil, but you cannot mix oil and water based paints.
Look at the instructions on the tin. If they say thin the paint and clean brushes with water they are water based, if they say clean brushes and thin with white spirit, they are oil based.Can you mix vinyl silk with matt paint?
