What kind of paint of should I use on vinyl?

I have a chevy tracker convertable with black vinyl as the top and i was wondering what kind of paint i could use to paint over the vinyl. Also, the paint has to be water-resistant. Can anybody help? What kind of paint of should I use on vinyl?
While it's not my specialty, I can advise you somewhat. When you've found your paint (and I know they're out there, just not what they're called) I would make a template with the outline if your piece. So, if you are making a piece sign, you'd make a template of that and trace around it. If you're planning on covering the whole top, skip this step.

Important: To help the paint stick longer, rub LIGHTLY with sandpaper where your image will go. You don't want to eat up the vinyl, just ';texture'; it so the paint will adhere. Leave spots that will not be painted alone.

Paint on top, seal somehow, and voila! I would think you could email one of the custom auto shops that are getting quite famous for all their really out-there designs and ask what they would suggest. Good luck! What kind of paint of should I use on vinyl?
spray paint would work

go to your local home depot and ask the people and you'll probably come home with a good paint. that is water resistant
Just for fun? Acrylic will work-you get bright colors that will be water-resistant, but it will peel and chip on something like that. Spray paint would be more permanent, but will need touching up as well (just will last much longer than acrylic). Are you painting the whole thing? If so, spray paint it. Going for fun designs? Try some contact paper or other colored plastic sheets...you could draw your designs, cut them out and apply them. You could spray them with a permanent adhesive to make them stay, or just use the ';contact'; side to change them every once in awhile.

If you are just ';touching'; up-go to a car store and get a paint pen in your color and use it on the areas needed. I believe they also make a colored paste for vinyl and leather products for problem areas.
