Is it possible to paint over vinyl wallpaper?

I suppose you could paint over most things, but the finish would be crap. Best to strip down to plaster, repair any minor blemishes in the plasterowrk, or use a lining paper which is designed to be painted over. Sorry more work, but worth itIs it possible to paint over vinyl wallpaper?

I work for sherwin williams and have knowledge of this.If you plan to do this you need to spot prime a seam on the wall first..Latex primer..If after 30 minutes you do not notice that the paper is coming loose then it should be okay .But the entire surface has to be primed.Using a primer, stain killer is your best bet.Then just top coat it with a good latex paint..
Yes it is the best paint for that is vinyl silk as if any thing gets on it then you can wipe it of easy

Yes but it will start to flake in a short time.Ask your hardware store as now there maybe a primer developed to seal vinyl

Yes, but the best method is to remove it first, especially if the seams are overlapped because painting tends to make them really stand out. However, if you don't want to remove the wallpaper, then use a good quality primer/stain blocker test it on a seam, let it dry for a day or two (so that it will go through temperature cycles) and check to see if the paper remains attached to the wall and the primer will not easily come off the paper. If all is OK, then proceed with the painting.





By good quality primer I mean in the class of Zinsser, Kilz or better. You can use either latex or oil based. I lean toward latex on interiors as the odor is less offensive.
yes you can where you run into problems is when you go to sell your house they(the buyers) will beat your asking price down big time they will tell you it needs to be removed I know I'm one of many people that make my living painting %26amp; removing wall paper
I have done this in the past because I did not want to go threw the hassle of tearing it off.After you paint the first coat you will see a lot of bubbles these will go away when the paint dries.It they do not go away take a needle and poke a hole and smooth it out,then put two More coats on this will hopefully take care of the lines of the wallpaper..good luck
use oil based primer latex reactivates the clay glue behind the vinyl thus the bubbling.

yes but first wash your wall with sugar soap this gets any wall paper paste of you may think that there is non left on the walls but you will be supprised, if you dont do this job you will find that the paint will crack where the paste is left hope this helps
