Would like to paint over heavy vinyl wallpaper on Gibraltar Board?

Wanting to know if I can paint over a heavy washable vinyl wallpaper, with a shiny gold outline in it as part of the pattern. (I mentioned that in case the shine makes a difference.)


It's the only layer of paper on the wall, been put over Gib Board, professionally done.


If so, what preparation and what type of paint should I use?

it's best to remove the paper first. moisture from primer and paint can dissolve or weaken glue . paper can start to peel over short time. the key to any good paint job is prep work.

Just make sure you prime it first, preferably an oil based primer.
Prime and paint. It will look crappy.
