Is it possible to paint vinyl/linoleum floors?

I have a large area which would cost a fortune to replace so am interested in painting the floors insteadIs it possible to paint vinyl/linoleum floors?
It is possible to paint your vinyl floors. I have seen it done. It doesn't last long or look great. You will need to rough up the surface of your existing vinyl floor first, or the paint definitely won't stick to the vinyl. Use a stinky, hard to clean up, oil based paint for maximum wear.

Laminates are inexpensive to install over your existing vinyl floor, if you are handy and would like to purchase a wood look. You can purchase the wood look laminates, underlayment and trim for approximately $3.00 per square foot and install them yourself. Most likely with out floor preperation.

The peel and stick vinyl is cheaper but doesn't last and isn't worth the investment. The tiles shrink over time and will leave a gap between the tiles for dirt to get caught.

Painting the floor with an oil based paint that you have, until you can save up for something better can be a valid option, if the floor is prepped properly. I have seen it look OK, and wear for a little while, depending on the traffic level of your home. No dogs. It's a project. If you are looking for a temporary solution, until you can save up the money to replace your floors, and don't mind paying more money and time in the end, do it.

Take care.Is it possible to paint vinyl/linoleum floors?
Nope. Even if you first primer it and then paint, that material does not hold the paint and it will flake and chip. You are better off taking it off, renting a polishing machine at home depot and then coat it with a shiny polymer to make it look like polished stone.
In the military they had a saying '; If it moves pick it up. If it don't move paint it..';

You can paint anything. But remember that paint also costs money. and depending on how much this area is used the paint will ware out and it will look worse than ever.
